Welcome to part two of Turning your office green in twenty eighteen !

Today, we continue with some helpful tips to reduce waste in your office. A simple tip which I’m sure many of you already employ at home is “Reduce, Reuse and Recycle”. In an office environment the immediate item that springs to mind to recycle is paper.

In an office there is so much more that can be done in addition to the practices already in place. In fact, 90% of the waste in the average work office can be recycled. Recycling reduces ten major forms of air pollutants and eight categories of water pollutants. Every 900kg of paper recycled, one can save 26497 litres of water and 17 trees, according to the United States Environmental Protection Agency.

By choosing to recycle you can also help to reduce the pressure on landfills. This is particular important for items such as office electronics (printers/shredders), which contain toxins that could otherwise contaminate groundwater and therefore have an effect on health of those in your community.

Why not buy/use products that are environmentally friendly?

Simple things such as purchasing recycled paper or buying printers that have refillable ink cartridges can all have a very positive effect on the environment.

Stay tuned for our next blog where we will continue our discussion on how to make your office greener this year!
