Office Windows
Welcome to our third blog on lighting in the office. This week we will focus on two soures of light. Natural and Artifical.
First up is natural light.
Natural Lighting
According to Seth Porges of bloomberg.com people who work around more light, especially natural light are more likely to be in better health and to be in a good mood.
A 2014 study published in the Journal of Clinical Sleep Medicine had two amazing findings: Test participants with windows in their offices got 46 minutes more sleep per night than those who were not exposed to natural light.
“Light also can affect the metabolism and efficiency of how your body utilizes food, which can be important for weight,” said Phyllis Zee, MD, Ph.D., director of the Sleep Disorders Center at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, and one of the study’s authors.

Office windows really are an extremely important component of any successful office build. In fact they even factor in on whether someone is satisfied with the building.
As we stated in our previous blogs natural lighting has an impact on firstly how well you can see but it also impacts upon how you’re feeling i.e. your mood and your energy levels. If your office lacks windows you should consider putting in over head lighting in the form of skylights.
In our next blog we will discuss artificial lighting.
